Many politicians, intellectuals and activists name the killing of youths in a ‘’rukum incident’. I call this an honour killing, genocide, crime against humanity, barbaric show of caste supremacy. The Mallas and Thakuris and other so-called high caste people involved in the killings of dalit and non-dalit youths are obviously criminals and they must be brought to the competent court. The deeply rooted caste discrimination and bramhanism (mind that, I do not mean brahaman as castegroup, but the people who believe in bramhanism) is definitely the reason behind this crime. But the issue does not stay here. There are other severe reasons which made so called high caste group commit such a heinous crime. The finger must be pointed to structural racism (read as casteism) which is promoting such crimes. Casteism is not only rampant among caste groups, it is deeply rooted in Nepal’s state structures (read as rajyastta). The absence of accountability from local authority, inaction from police, involvement of local regional and political leaders to divert the issue and protect the culprits are historically and currently are the main reasons which promote such heinous crime. It will be injustice to victims if only so-called high caste people involved in the killing this time are convicted. Leaders of dalit and other human rights activists must be equally careful (read as Jagaruk) to bring the local authority, police and politicians to the competent court. Inaction, absence af accountability from duty bearers (read as rajyasatta ko akarmanyata) are even more dangerous in the cases of human rights violation. They are the real culprits and they must be hold accountable even in this case. Ruling party and government is warning the Dalit community and opposition party not to politicize this issue. when structural racism (casteism) is so deeply rooted in the politics of Nepal and it is the establishment (rajyasatta) which is promoting discrimination in Nepal, the warning not to politicize this issue is utterly condemnable, irresponsible and humiliating for entire Dalits. What else is remaining now other than fighting against the structural racism (read as Rajyasatta biruddha bidroha). When such crimes happen, we often limit ourselves and be happy when government take actions against culprits. However, this will not do the real justice to Dalits. Not at all will do this any justice to the victims of this heinous crime. These youths did not die just for love. They died to ignite the sense of revolution and fight (bidroha). They have soaked us by their blood to gives us the courage to fight against this structural injustice so that no one even dare discriminating other based on caste.
